Two Injured as Training Aircraft Crash-Lands During Simulated Landing
Two persons were injured after a Diamond training aircraft operated by the Aviation Training School crash-landed at the Ilorin International Airport on Friday.
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), which confirmed the incident, has launched a full investigation into the cause of the crash.
According to a statement issued late Friday by the NSIB’s Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance, Mrs. Bimbo Oladeji, the incident occurred at exactly 17:28 local time during a simulated instrument approach on Runway 05.
She explained that the aircraft veered off the runway and came to a halt on the grass verge.
According to the statement:
“Two occupants were on board. Both sustained serious injuries and were swiftly evacuated to a medical facility, coordinated by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).”
Oladeji added that the NSIB Go-Team would be departing from Abuja to Ilorin to carry out an on-site investigation.
“The team will secure the site, collect physical evidence, interview witnesses, and retrieve operational data to establish the cause and contributing factors of the incident.”
Speaking on the crash-landing, the Director General of NSIB, Capt. Alex Badeh Jr., assured the public of a detailed and professional probe.

“Our thoughts are with the injured, and we commend the swift medical and emergency response. Now, our focus is on understanding exactly what went wrong. Every investigation is an opportunity to improve safety. We are deploying our team to Ilorin to ensure that no detail is overlooked.”
The Bureau cautioned the public and media against speculations, urging them to wait for verified information as the investigation progresses.
NSIB also reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a thorough, independent, and transparent investigation to support the ongoing enhancement of aviation safety in Nigeria.
