Ondo Govt Pledges to Eradicate Cultism, Seeks Community Support

The Ondo State Government has vowed to stamp out cultism and other social vices, particularly among the youth, across the state.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, the government called on parents, traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders to collaborate in tackling the menace.

Reaffirming its commitment to instilling the core Yoruba values of Omoluabi—which emphasise respect, discipline, hard work, and the sanctity of life—the government restated its zero tolerance for cultism, thuggery, political violence, and civil unrest.

Commissioner Ajanaku stressed that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration is determined to preserve the state’s reputation and foster a secure environment conducive to development and investor confidence.

“The Omoluabi values rooted in our tradition form the foundation of a peaceful and progressive society. We are calling on student leaders, religious and traditional rulers, market women, politicians, and the general public to unite in rejecting cultism, kidnapping, and other disruptive behaviours,” he said.

Describing the surge in social vices as “alarming and unacceptable,” Ajanaku urged residents to defend the state’s core values and resist any descent into lawlessness.

“No society can thrive amid insecurity. We must all take responsibility in this fight. Report suspicious activities, uphold good conduct, and be ambassadors of peace and order,” he said.

According to him, the path to a safe, attractive, and economically viable Ondo State begins with a united front against crime and social decay.
