New Rivers Police Commissioner Adepoju Takes Over, Pledges Enhanced Security

Former Rivers State Commissioner of Police, AIG Mohammed Mustapha, has officially handed over to CP Olugbenga Adepoju, the newly appointed Commissioner of Police in Rivers State.

Mustapha, recently promoted to Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), has been redeployed to Zone 6, Calabar. During the handover ceremony at the Police Officers’ Mess in Port Harcourt, Mustapha expressed gratitude to the officers, men of the Rivers State Police Command, and residents for their cooperation during his three-month tenure.

He highlighted significant achievements under his leadership, including advancements in crime fighting, peacekeeping, and human and infrastructural development.

Speaking at his maiden media briefing, CP Olugbenga Adepoju outlined his administration’s priorities, emphasizing improved security for citizens and businesses in the state. He said:

“We will focus on strengthening intelligence gathering, community policing, and public engagement, maintaining zero tolerance for corruption, combating cultism and youth violence, and tackling oil theft.”

The new Commissioner of Police called for collaboration from all stakeholders to ensure a peaceful and secure Rivers State. He also thanked the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, and the Police Service Commission for entrusting him with the leadership of the command.

Adepoju, the 47th Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, assured that his administration would be guided by integrity and partnerships with relevant stakeholders to achieve its objectives.
