UEFA declares sanction on Real Madrid players over improper conduct
UEFA has officially announced sanctions against Kylian Mbappé, Antonio Rüdiger, Dani Ceballos, and Vinicius Jr. for their provocative celebrations following Real Madrid’s qualification against Atlético Madrid in the Champions League round of 16.
At the request of Atlético, UEFA reviewed footage showing the four players allegedly taunting Colchoneros fans, with Mbappé making an obscene gesture, Vinicius provoking the crowd, Ceballos raising his middle finger, and Rüdiger miming a throat-slitting gesture.
Although these incidents occurred after Atlético supporters had thrown objects at Madrid players, UEFA deemed the actions punishable, particularly Rüdiger’s, which was considered a direct threat.
Despite the controversy, the governing body opted for suspended sanctions, meaning the players will be available to face Arsenal in the quarter-finals.

Rüdiger received a €40,000 fine and a one-match suspension on probation for a year, while Mbappé was fined €30,000 with the same conditional suspension. Ceballos, meanwhile, was fined €20,000, but no action was taken against Vinicius Jr.
Although Real Madrid avoids immediate suspensions, any further misconduct could activate these penalties.
