Bokkos, Plateau State – Tragedy struck again in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State as armed gunmen launched coordinated attacks on three villages

Tragedy struck again in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State as armed gunmen launched coordinated attacks on three villages, leaving at least 15 people dead and several others severely injured. The assault, which occurred on Wednesday, has further heightened tensions in the region, which has witnessed repeated incidents of violence in recent times.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants, heavily armed and numbering in dozens, stormed the villages in the dead of night, shooting indiscriminately and setting houses ablaze. The affected communities—Maiyanga, Nding, and Bokkos town—were left in ruins as terrified residents fled for their lives. Many of the injured are receiving treatment at local hospitals, while families mourn the loss of loved ones.
According to local sources, the attack lasted for several hours without immediate intervention from security forces. Residents expressed frustration over the recurring violence, blaming the lack of proactive measures to curb the bloodshed. “This is not the first time we are witnessing such attacks, yet nothing is being done to protect us,” said a distraught resident of Bokkos town.
Community leaders and rights groups have condemned the killings, calling on the government and security agencies to take swift action to prevent further loss of life. The Plateau State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the attack, but sources within the security agencies have confirmed that efforts are underway to track down the perpetrators.
The latest killings add to the growing list of violent incidents in Plateau State, a region that has long been plagued by ethno-religious tensions and clashes between farmers and herders. The federal and state governments have repeatedly promised to restore peace in the region, but residents remain skeptical, citing a pattern of unaddressed attacks that have left thousands dead or displaced over the years.
As the affected communities count their losses and bury their dead, calls for urgent intervention grow louder. Many are urging the government to deploy more security personnel and take decisive action against the perpetrators to bring lasting peace to Bokkos and other troubled areas of Plateau State.
