BREAKING: Nigeria’s Favour Ofili Smashes 150m World Record

Nigerian sprint star Favour Ofili made history on Saturday at the 2025 Adidas Atlanta City Games, breaking the women’s 150m world record with an astonishing time of 15.85 seconds (2.0m/s) at Piedmont Park, Atlanta.

The 22-year-old became the first woman ever to run the distance in under 16 seconds, obliterating the previous record of 16.23s set by Bahamian Olympic champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo in 2018.

Nigerian sprint star Favour Ofili’s record-breaking run was the highlight of a strong showing from Team Nigeria at the high-profile street athletics meet, which featured elite global talent in a vibrant, open-air setting.

Also in action was world record holder Tobi Amusan, who clocked 12.53s to finish second in her 100m hurdles heat behind American Keni Harrison (12.44s), securing her spot in the final later in the day.

Amusan has been steadily improving this season, following times of 12.74s and 12.66s in earlier races in Xiamen and Keqiao.

Nigerian sprinter Udodi Onwuzurike added to the country’s strong presence, running a season’s best 10.20s to place second in his 100m heat behind South Africa’s Akani Simbine (10.13s). Onwuzurike’s performance was enough to qualify him for the final and signals a promising return to form in his 2025 campaign.
