UNILORIN Disowns Fasakin, Recognizes Kilani as Alumni President
The management of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has warned Dr. Wale Fasakin, the former president of the institution’s alumni association, to stop presenting himself as the association’s national president.
In a statement on Wednesday, the university’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, confirmed that the institution only recognizes the newly elected executives of the association, led by Prof. Abdulrazaq Kilani.
“Dr. Fasakin’s tenure ended in 2021 through a resolution of the association’s congress. A caretaker committee was subsequently appointed to oversee the association’s affairs until August 2024, when the Kilani-led executives were elected,” Akogun stated.
Akogun criticized Fasakin for allegedly leading a delegation to the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Mrs. Kemi Nandap, under the guise of representing the association’s National Executive Committee.
He cautioned corporate organizations, government officials, and other stakeholders to cease engaging with Fasakin, noting that he no longer holds any position in the association.
“He has ceased to be an official of the association, so, he is no longer in any position to represent it,” Akogun emphasized.
While reaffirming the university’s non-interference in the association’s internal affairs, Akogun urged for the preservation of the unity previously enjoyed by the group.
He highlighted the association’s significance in contributing to the university’s development and assured stakeholders that the management remains committed to fostering internal peace and harmony within the alumni community.
