Nigerian activist Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, posted a troubling video on Instagram showing a woman accusing airport staff of extortion.
In the video, the woman claimed she was forced to pay ₦5,000 for each bag, leading to a heated exchange with the staff. She also alleged that she was assaulted by officers at Muritala Mohammed Airport.
The woman threatened to pay ₦1 million to popular bloggers like GistLover and Instablog to spread the word about her experience.
In response, the airport officials insisted they were only carrying out their official duties and denied any wrongdoing.
VeryDarkMan made it clear that he wasn’t paid to share the video and promised to investigate the situation. He also blamed the airport staff’s behavior on low salaries and called on the federal government to raise their wages.
In his post, he tagged the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, and questioned the legitimacy of the fees. “When did these charges start for passengers’ bags? If true, will we soon pay for the air we breathe in Nigeria?” he asked.
