Victor Osimhen Breaks Record as Galatasaray Clinch Turkish Cup with 3-0 Win Over Trabzonspor
Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, delivered a match-winning performance on Wednesday night, scoring twice to lead Galatasaray to a 3-0 triumph over Trabzonspor in the Turkish Cup final held at Gaziantep Stadium.
The emphatic victory handed Galatasaray their 19th Turkish Cup title and the first since 2019, capping a dominant campaign in which Osimhen played a pivotal role.
Having scored a brace in the quarter-final against Fenerbahçe and notched a goal and assist in the 5-1 semi-final win over Konyaspor, Osimhen was once again the star of the show.
Galatasaray took the lead early in the match, thanks to Baris Alper Yilmaz who slotted in a fine finish from a well-placed cutback by Yunus Akgün in the 5th minute.
Osimhen asserted his dominance in the second half. He muscled past a defender to score Galatasaray’s second, then sealed the result with a brilliant finish on a counterattack—his 35th goal of the season.

The encounter also featured a Nigerian duel as Osimhen faced compatriot Anthony Nwakaeme, who was hoping to lift the trophy with Trabzonspor after finishing runners-up last year.
This victory marks Osimhen’s first trophy with Galatasaray and the fourth major title of his career, adding to his U-17 World Cup and U-23 AFCON wins in 2015, as well as the 2023 Serie A title with Napoli.
Osimhen’s 35-goal season set a new record, surpassing the 24-year-old record held by Mario Jardel, to become Galatasaray’s highest-scoring foreign player in a single campaign.
