Violence Erupts in Naka as Protesters Burn Buildings Over Herdsmen Killings

Naka, a once peaceful community, has been thrown into chaos as angry protesters took to the streets, setting fire to buildings in response to the continued killings of their people by suspected herdsmen. The unrest has left many residents stranded, as soldiers deployed to the area fired shots into the air in an attempt to disperse the crowds.

Among the structures destroyed by the protesters are the Local Government Secretariat, the palace of Ter Nagi, a hotel belonging to Senator Zam, the residence of Engineer Felix Atume, the palace of Zaki Ormin and the house of Hon. Kenneth Iyo.

Eyewitnesses say that the protesters, driven by frustration and anger over the killings, have resorted to extreme measures to make their voices heard. It is alleged that community leader Achado Asema had previously advised them to bring the corpses of slain victims to the Local Government Secretariat as a form of protest. However, instead of a peaceful demonstration, the protest escalated into violence, with government and private properties set ablaze.

Critics have condemned the approach, questioning the rationale behind destroying community infrastructure and properties unrelated to the herdsmen attacks.

“This is an archaic way of protesting. How does burning down the Local Government Secretariat or Zam’s hotel solve the problem? Are herdsmen living there?” a concerned resident lamented.

As the crisis unfolds, there is an urgent call for government intervention to address the grievances of the people and restore order. Residents are pleading for authorities to take decisive action against the killings while also ensuring that the protests do not spiral further into destruction.

For now, Naka remains in turmoil, with its people desperate for security and justice.
