Wanted General Overseer Arrested in Lagos for Cross-Border Drug Trafficking

After months on the run, the founder and General Overseer of The Turn of Mercy Church, Prophet Adefolusho Aanu Olasele — also known as Abbas Ajakaiye — has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for allegedly orchestrating multiple shipments of illicit drugs into Nigeria.

The NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Sunday. According to him, NDLEA officers apprehended the cleric on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at his church in Okun Ajah, Ogombo Road, Lekki, Lagos. The operatives reportedly kept watch from morning until the end of the evening service before moving in as he exited the premises.

Babafemi disclosed that Olasele had twice evaded arrest and fled to Ghana in June after NDLEA linked him to the seizure of two shipments of “Ghana Loud,” a potent strain of cannabis. The first consignment — 200kg — was intercepted at Okun Ajah beach on June 4, 2025, while another 700kg was recovered from his delivery van on July 6, 2025. The suspect allegedly ferried the drugs via waterways from Ghana into Nigeria.

In a separate operation in Lagos on August 7, NDLEA operatives raided an apartment at Kishi House, Parkview Estate, Ikoyi, arresting one Benjamin Udo Ukoh and seizing 32 pouches of Canadian Loud cannabis weighing 15.63kg.
