Veteran actress Bimbo Akintola has opened up about her personal life, addressing misconceptions about her marital status and why she remains childless at 52.
Speaking in an interview with PulseNG, Akintola explained that her single status is not entirely by choice but a result of life circumstances, coupled with the high value she places on marriage and relationships.
She revealed that she once met someone she believed was her life partner, but he sadly passed away. Since then, she has not found anyone who fits her ideal of a lifelong companion.
For Akintola, honesty and truth are non-negotiable in marriage. She said she would never marry unless she was certain she could spend the rest of her life with her partner.
“I don’t have children, unfortunately. Marriage is important. It’s simple — something you do in the house of God. You go to church, invite everyone who loves you, and make vows to cherish and live with each other forever. I haven’t found the person I want to do that with. I did, but he died. Since then, I haven’t found another,” she said.
She added that she refuses to live a lie and must remain true to herself and God. “If I believe I can spend forever with someone, I will marry — even if I’m 78. Why not?”
While stressing that marriage does not define a woman’s worth, Akintola maintained that it is still important, especially in later years when children are grown and have moved on. “There’s something called loneliness,” she noted. “You need a companion for those later years.”
