Wike: My children Have Right to Own lands

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyeson Wike, has said that his children have every right to own lands in Nigeria.

Wike made this assertion at a media briefing in Abuja on Thursday, with the minister defending the rights of his children as Nigerian citizens to own land, provided they follow due process.

Reports had surfaced in the media last Thursday that Wike allocated 2,082 hectares of land to one of his sons in Maitama and Asokoro, Abuja.

Wike, speaking about the allegation, said: “Assuming, though not conceding, my children applied for land. Are they not citizens? Are they Ghanaians? Even if they applied, are they not entitled because I’m a minister?.”

The former governor of Rivers State, however, denied the allegation, saying that the accusation originated from Adamawa state.

The FCT Minister also went ahead to accuse an unnamed individual of orchestrating a smear campaign to undermine his leadership.

“First, calculate land in Maitama and Asokoro and tell me where you’d get 2000 hectares of land. And I know where it is coming from. It is from Adamawa state. I am aware,” Wike said.
