Woman Dies After Falling Into 170Ft Well at Lagos Construction Site

A tragic incident occurred in the Ijegun area of Lagos State where a woman died after falling into a 170ft well at a construction site.
Her body was recovered following a prolonged rescue operation led by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
According to the agency, it received a distress call at about 7:34 p.m. on Monday, June 30, regarding the accident at Abuba Anthony Street, near Obalagbe Bus Stop and close to Fadeko International Hotel.
In a statement released on Friday, the Senior Public Affairs Officer of the Fire Service, Maria Fadairo, said that emergency responders from the Ejigbo Fire Station arrived at the scene to discover that an adult female had fallen into an uncovered well in front of an uncompleted one-storey building.
The structure reportedly houses six two-bedroom flats on a fenced plot measuring 648 square metres.
Due to the depth of the well and the complexity of the situation, a multi-agency recovery operation was launched.
After several days of effort, the woman’s body was finally retrieved on Thursday, July 10.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service coordinated the recovery in partnership with the Nigeria Police, Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU), and other emergency agencies.
“The victim was recovered dead and handed over to SEHMU officials, while LASAMBUS was on standby and the Nigeria Police monitored the scene,” the statement read.
Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, extended condolences to the victim’s family and commended the efforts of all agencies involved.
