Youth Killed, Others Injured as Soldiers Invade Over Land Dispute – Kuchibuyi, Abuja
The peaceful Kuchibuyi community in the Kubwa area of Abuja was thrown into mourning and chaos after a violent invasion by soldiers and police, reportedly acting on the orders of Bwari Area Council Chairman, John Gabaya. The incursion, linked to an ongoing land dispute, led to the killing of a youth, Attahiru Abubakar, and left several others injured and detained.
FCNN gathered that the incident erupted during a confrontation between security operatives and local youths resisting a land takeover allegedly orchestrated by the Chairman in collaboration with the Managing Director of Grow Homes Estate Ltd, Mr. Roland.
Eyewitness videos show residents resisting armed Nigerian Army and police officers attempting to enforce the takeover. The confrontation turned deadly when security operatives opened fire, killing Attahiru, a newly married young man. Two other critically injured youths were taken away by security personnel. Several others remain detained at the Police Area Command in Kubwa.
According to multiple sources, tensions had been simmering since February 1, 2025, when surveyors, escorted by armed military officers, entered the village to begin land measurements. The villagers were told the land had been allocated for a mini-barracks for retired military personnel by the Bwari Area Council. A survey map was reportedly sent to the village head, Isiaka Dauda, with a promise to return with official documents.
The situation escalated on August 2, 2025, when Mr. Roland returned with another team of surveyors. He was confronted by community youths and taken to the village chief’s palace for questioning. During this time, he allegedly called the Bwari Council Chairman, who swiftly deployed police and soldiers to the scene.
Upon arrival, the security team reportedly opened fire on the villagers, killing Attahiru and arresting several youths. The body of the deceased was allegedly taken away by the operatives, and the whereabouts of the injured remain unknown.
Sources accuse the Bwari Area Council Chairman of engaging in illegal land allocations, often issuing backdated documents to developers and estate firms in exchange for bribes. It is also alleged that he works with local chiefs, councilors, and security personnel to forcibly displace villagers.
“The Chairman and his allies are enriching themselves through backdoor land deals. This is the hidden source of their unexplained wealth,” one source claimed.
Tensions in Kuchibuyi have heightened following the commencement of a road construction project by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, connecting the village to Bwari town via Kubwa a development believed to have increased the land’s value.
Efforts are reportedly underway by those involved to suppress details of the incident and avoid public backlash. The community continues to demand justice for the slain youth and the release of those unlawfully detained.
