Zulum Visits Wulgo After Boko Haram Attack, Vows to Prevent Town’s Collapse

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has extended his on-the-ground assessment of Boko Haram-hit communities by visiting Wulgo, a town on the fringes of Lake Chad recently overrun by insurgents.

Wulgo came under attack days ago, forcing troops of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), previously stationed there for protection, to withdraw temporarily. The governor’s visit follows earlier stops in Marte and Kala-Balge as part of his broader mission to consolidate efforts against insurgency and mobilize local support for peace and recovery.

During his visit, Governor Zulum met with community leaders and residents, listening to their grievances and offering assurances of support.

He pledged accelerated humanitarian relief, the provision of modern irrigation tools and rain-fed farming equipment, as well as strengthened security interventions to restore economic life in the town.

Zulum also emphasized the role of local resilience and community engagement in countering insecurity and rebuilding affected areas.

“I am here today to commiserate with you over what has happened in the last couple of days.

“While I encourage you to be resilient enough, I want to assure you that my administration is fully committed to doing everything within our power to ensure that this town is not completely deserted or taken over by Boko Haram,” Zulum said.

The governor’s continued tour reflects a hands-on approach in tackling the long-standing security challenges in Borno State, with renewed calls for unity and vigilance among local populations.
