A prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse, has cautioned President Bola Tinubu and other political stakeholders against manipulating the outcome of the 2027 presidential election, warning that Nigeria is under close international scrutiny.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Sunday, Pearse said any attempt to compromise the electoral process could trigger serious consequences from the global community. He stressed that the period when election rigging went unchallenged is fast fading, as international bodies and influential global powers are now paying closer attention to democratic practices in Nigeria.
According to him, electoral malpractice in 2027 would not go unnoticed. He warned that foreign powers could respond decisively to any attempt to undermine democracy, saying the world is watching Nigeria’s political actions very closely.
Pearse also pointed to international judicial institutions, including the International Criminal Court (ICC), as a strong warning against election fraud. He noted that such bodies exist to hold individuals accountable for actions that threaten democratic order.
He expressed optimism that the 2027 general elections would mark a turning point, insisting that Nigerians are no longer willing to tolerate rigging or other forms of electoral manipulation.
Pearse’s remarks come amid increasing political activities and debates ahead of the 2027 polls, as opposition voices continue to demand credible, transparent, and fair elections across the country.
