500 Cows Seized in Barkin Ladi for Destroying Farmlands

Security operatives in Gassa village, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, have intercepted and seized over 500 cows belonging to suspected Fulani herdsmen after the animals were found grazing on farmlands and destroying crops.

According to local reports, farmers in the community raised an alarm after sighting herders allowing their cattle to graze freely on maize farms. Security personnel swiftly responded and, upon arrival, discovered more than 1,000 cows feeding on the farmlands.

Following the intervention, troops from the Nigerian Army’s Sector 4 Base in Barkin Ladi impounded about 500 of the cows for further investigation.

Army officials visited the affected area to assess the extent of the damage and were reportedly shocked to find that no fewer than 75 farms had been destroyed by the rampaging cattle.

Community leaders in Gassa have commended the prompt action of the security operatives, urging authorities to ensure that justice is served.

“We are not violent people and will not take the law into our own hands,” a community representative said. “But justice must be swift, because justice delayed is justice denied.”

Residents have appealed to the Plateau State government and security agencies to intensify surveillance and prevent future incursions on farmlands, which they say threaten food security and peaceful coexistence in the area.
