Alaafin Visits Speaker, IGP in Abuja

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade, has paid courtesy visits to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abass, and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, in Abuja.
The monarch was accompanied by his wife, Abiwumi Owoade; Prince Akeem Adeyemi, member representing Oyo Federal Constituency; and Alhaji AbdulWasiu Adebisi, among others. Also in attendance were the Ataoja of Osogbo, the Olu of Ilaro, the Oloro of Oro, the Olusin of Ijora Isin, other federal lawmakers, and the coordinating Deputy Inspector-General of Police for the South-West, DIG Adebowale Williams.
During the meeting with the Speaker, Abass briefed the monarch on bills and motions raised in support of Nigeria’s traditional rulers.
Describing his engagement with Oba Owoade as “warm, engaging, and deeply enriching,” the Speaker said the House has been supportive of monarchs and would continue to do so in 2025.
He noted that a bill granting constitutional roles to traditional rulers is already receiving legislative attention and promised speedy passage.
At the Police Headquarters, the IGP commended the critical role of traditional institutions in maintaining community safety and national security.
