A woman identified as Esther has reportedly died after paying a visit to her boyfriend in the Dei-Dei area of Abuja, Federal Capital Territory.
According to a resident of the area, Dauda, the incident occurred on Wednesday. He said Esther left her home that afternoon, telling her sister she was heading to a bank in Dei-Dei, but she never returned.
Dauda explained that later that night, Esther’s elder brother received a phone call from a man who claimed to be her boyfriend. The caller said Esther had visited his residence, where he bought food for her. After eating, she reportedly began vomiting, prompting him to take her to Kubwa General Hospital.
The man allegedly told the family that Esther died while receiving treatment at the hospital. He did not disclose his identity or address, and both his phone line and Esther’s phone have since been switched off.
Dauda added that the family has been unable to reach the boyfriend since the call, raising concerns over the circumstances surrounding Esther’s death.
When contacted on Friday, the Federal Capital Territory Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, confirmed that the police are aware of the case and that investigations are currently ongoing.
