The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old ex-convict, Chidera Anthony Eleh, also known as Timaya, in connection with alleged motorcycle-assisted robbery attacks targeting Point-of-Sale (POS) operators and other residents in Awka, the state capital.

Eleh was apprehended on the afternoon of Friday, October 9, during an intelligence-driven operation by police operatives investigating a series of reported robbery incidents in the city.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operation resulted in the recovery of a motorcycle, an axe, a cutlass and other items believed to be linked to the alleged criminal activities.

Ikenga said the arrest was part of the command’s broader efforts to curb motorcycle-related robberies and other forms of criminality across Anambra State.

The police spokesman disclosed that Eleh, who has a previous conviction, remains in custody while investigators work to determine his alleged role in the reported robberies. Investigators are also examining whether other individuals may have been involved in the incidents.

The command, however, did not disclose specific details of the robberies, including the identities of the victims or the circumstances that led to Eleh’s arrest.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, reiterated the command’s determination to protect residents and their property. He also warned that anyone found culpable of criminal offences would face the law.

The police further advised POS operators, commercial motorcyclists and other business owners to remain alert and report suspicious activities or movements to the nearest police station to assist security agencies in preventing further attacks.
