Aregbesola Rules Out Coalition Ahead of 2026 Osun Governorship Election

Former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has firmly dismissed the possibility of his political group forming any alliance ahead of the 2026 governorship election in the state.
Speaking on Sunday at a reception in Osogbo organized by the Omoluabi Progressives—a political movement he established—the Former Osun State Governor stated that his group would contest independently and was confident of electoral success. The event also marked his 68th birthday.
“By this time next year, we will be closer to Abere (Osun State Governor’s Office). May God make it so,” Aregbesola declared.
“There is a misconception that we plan to align with other parties. That’s not true. We will not form any alliance. We will pursue our political goals on our own. By God’s grace, we will contest and win.”
He further reflected on the importance of honoring mothers during birthday celebrations, emphasizing the pain and sacrifice involved in childbirth.
“Whenever you celebrate your birthday, remember your mother—whether she’s alive or late.
The sacrifice of childbirth deserves our prayers and appreciation,” he said.
Moshood Adeoti, former Secretary to the State Government under Aregbesola’s administration, urged members of the Omoluabi Progressives to remain loyal and committed to the group’s principles.
Representing Governor Ademola Adeleke, Commissioner Biyi Odunlade lauded Aregbesola’s impact on Osun’s development, describing his legacy as enduring and praiseworthy.
“You left a solid foundation for good governance in Osun. Your service is commendable and places you ahead of your peers,” Odunlade remarked.
