Atiku Reacts to Okowa’s Defection to APC

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed his thoughts on the recent defection of former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and current Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who have both transitioned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Okowa, who served as Atiku’s running mate in the 2023 presidential election under the PDP banner, made the shift to the ruling APC alongside Governor Oborevwori and several other stakeholders in Delta State.

In response to this political shift on Friday evening, Atiku shared that he has received numerous inquiries from Nigerians regarding his sentiments on the defections.

He reaffirmed that in a democracy, individuals possess the right to determine their political affiliations and that he respects the choices of those who have chosen to leave the PDP.

Atiku emphasized that Nigeria’s central issue transcends party loyalty; it lies in the prevailing hardships faced by citizens under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Former Vice President Atiku highlighted the worsening economic situation, rising prices, diminishing job opportunities, and the growing frustrations among the youth.

Atiku criticized the Tinubu government for its failures, suggesting that it is resorting to division and distractions to mask its inadequate performance.

He urged Nigerians to prioritize unity and focus on addressing the pressing challenges facing the nation, rather than allowing themselves to be divided by party, ethnicity, or religion.
