The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly taken into custody a medical doctor accused of providing treatment and medical supplies to kidnapping syndicates operating in parts of Kwara State.
The doctor, whose identity had not been confirmed as of the time of filing this report, was arrested in the Jebba axis following intelligence suggesting that certain couriers had been transporting medical materials from Sokoto to bandits nursing injuries in forest hideouts across the state.
Security insiders disclosed that several members of these criminal groups have been nursing gunshot wounds from recent clashes with security personnel.
One security official warned that health centres located near dense forests could become targets as injured kidnappers seek treatment, urging stronger security precautions in such areas.
Reacting to the incident, the Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, described the arrest as a significant advancement in the fight against banditry.
“This is a notable achievement by the DSS. It shows that security agencies are tightening the net around these criminal networks and disrupting the support systems that keep them functioning,” he stated.
Ajakaye reaffirmed that the state government will maintain and deepen its cooperation with security agencies to dismantle every channel aiding kidnapping operations.
