BREAKING: FG Declares Tuesday Public Holiday in Honour of Buhari

The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, July 15, a public holiday to honour the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The decision, announced by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, follows President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive for a seven-day period of national mourning.

In a statement signed by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the minister said the holiday serves as a mark of respect for Buhari’s dedicated service to Nigeria, his role in strengthening democracy, and his contributions to national development.

“President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to unity and progress,” Tunji-Ojo stated. “This holiday allows Nigerians to reflect on his life, leadership, and the values he stood for.”

He called on citizens to honour Buhari’s memory by promoting peace, patriotism, and national unity, in line with the late leader’s vision for a better Nigeria.

The minister also reminded the public that national flags will continue to fly at half-mast throughout the mourning period, from Sunday, July 13, 2025.
