BREAKING: Rivers APC Urges Fubara to Pursue Genuine Peace or Face Impeachment

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has issued a warning to suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, urging him to embark on sincere reconciliation efforts with the state’s lawmakers to avoid impeachment.

At a press conference held Tuesday in Abuja, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress Caretaker Committee, Tony Okocha, criticized the suspended governor for failing to take concrete steps toward resolving the political impasse with members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The political crisis in the state escalated on March 18 when President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency due to an ongoing standoff between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Governor Fubara. As part of the emergency measures, Tinubu suspended both the governor and the House of Assembly, appointing retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas as sole administrator for six months.

While the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors have taken legal action against the President’s intervention, recent meetings involving Tinubu, Wike, and Fubara have sparked hopes of a potential resolution.

Amid growing speculation that President Tinubu may reinstate Governor Fubara on June 12, Okocha maintained that reconciliation has not yet begun.

“There is no reconciliation effort ongoing in Rivers State,” Okocha declared. “Governor Fubara has not initiated any move toward dialogue with the lawmakers. Only genuine reconciliation can prevent his impeachment, in line with the Supreme Court’s ruling.”
