CAF President Addresses Nigeria-Libya Controversy, Promises Action Following Investigation
The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has emphasized that appropriate action will be taken following a thorough investigation into the incident involving the Nigerian national football team at Al Abraq Airport. The Super Eagles had accused Libyan authorities of deliberately diverting their flight and subjecting them to a 14-hour delay ahead of their AFCON qualifier against Libya.
According to Fushion Chronicles Nigeria, the Nigerian team and its officials were reportedly forced to land under challenging conditions, raising concerns about the treatment they received. In response, CAF issued a statement confirming that the matter has been referred to its Disciplinary Board for investigation, and any violations of CAF statutes and regulations will be addressed accordingly.
As a result of the incident, the Nigerian team and its officials made the decision not to participate in the 2025 AFCON qualifier against Libya.
