Court remands carpenter for allegedly raping, killing grandmother in Ondo

An Ondo State Magistrate Court sitting in Akure has ordered the remand of a man, Ahmed Toheed, for allegedly raping and killing his grandmother, Mrs. Mulikat Sanni, in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
Toheed was reportedly arrested by operatives of the state Police Command for committing the offence on September 29, 2025, at Onisere Street, Ore.
During proceedings, the police prosecutor, Augustine Omhenimhen, told the court that the defendant accused the deceased of witchcraft and blamed her for his misfortunes before strangling her and having unlawful carnal knowledge of her.
The charge sheet partly read:“That you, Ahmed Toheed, on September 29, 2025, at about 10 pm, at Onisere Street, Ore, in the Ondo State Magisterial District, did unlawfully strangle one Mulikat Sanni, aged 64, to death and did unlawfully have carnal knowledge of her, thereby committing offences contrary to and punishable under Sections 319 and 358 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.”
Although the defendant pleaded not guilty, the court did not take his plea.
The prosecutor subsequently requested that Toheed be remanded pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
However, defence counsel Benjamin Adeyanju sought an adjournment to file a counter-affidavit.

In her ruling, Magistrate Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi ordered the remand of the defendant at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and :
adjourned the case till October 13, 2025, for further hearing.
