Kindly share this story

A viral video making rounds on social media has sparked outrage after a man alleged that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) carried out a violent raid on an apartment in Calabar, Cross River State, on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.

In the footage, the visibly distressed man claimed that EFCC officers broke into their residence by smashing through the POP ceiling and allegedly used acid to corrode the gate’s locks in order to gain access.

Clips shared online appear to show significant damage to the ceiling, which the man said was caused during the forced entry. He also accused the operatives of destroying the compound’s locking system with acid.

As of Thursday, October 23, 2025, the EFCC has yet to issue any official statement addressing the allegations or confirming if an operation took place in the area.

The incident has reignited public debate over the EFCC’s methods, particularly concerning late-night raids and the use of excessive force practices many Nigerians have condemned as unlawful and potentially abusive.

Further verification and official clarification are awaited to confirm the authenticity of the claims and to establish what transpired during the alleged raid.
