Loyalist Assaults Youth Over Criticism of Kano Governor Abba Yusuf

A staunch loyalist of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has allegedly assaulted a young man for criticizing the governor’s leadership on social media. The incident, which occurred in the heart of Kano metropolis, has sparked outrage among residents and human rights advocates who are calling for justice and accountability.

Eyewitnesses say the victim, identified as a local youth activist, was confronted and physically attacked by the governor’s supporter, who accused him of “disrespecting His Excellency” in a recent post that questioned the administration’s performance and transparency.

The young man reportedly sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby clinic for treatment. Family members have since lodged a formal complaint with the police, demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of the attacker.

The Kano State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement, but civil society groups are urging the government to distance itself from such violent acts and uphold citizens’ right to free speech.

This incident raises fresh concerns about growing intolerance to dissent in Kano’s political space and the urgent need to protect democratic values and civil liberties.
