FG to Boost Economy by Training 100,000 Artisans in 2025

The Federal Government has announced plans to train 100,000 artisans across Nigeria in 2025 as part of efforts to revamp the nation’s economy through skill acquisition and capacity building.
The Director-General of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Dr. Oluwatoyin Ogun, disclosed this on Tuesday in Akure during the inauguration of the Ondo State Secretariat of the Association of Nigerian Artisans and Technicians (ASNAT).
Dr. Ogun said the initiative, part of the “Skill Up Artisan Super” programme, reflects President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to harnessing and enhancing the potential of Nigerian artisans to meet global standards.
“President Bola Tinubu has prioritized the development of artisans as a key driver of economic growth,” she said. “This is the first time in our nation’s history that a president is deliberately focusing on empowering artisans in such a structured and large-scale manner.”
According to Ogun, the programme began last year with the upskilling of 29,000 non-artisans into skilled trades.
This year, the target is to train and upgrade 100,000 artisans to international standards.
She emphasized that the programme aims to eliminate quackery by introducing licensing for artisans, ensuring quality and professionalism across the sector.
“Once we remove quackery, artisans will begin to earn better from their work, and there will be less need for them to seek alternative, less rewarding jobs,” Ogun said. “This initiative will restore dignity to their labor and allow them to proudly stand by their profession.”
She also noted that technicians from specialized institutions would be trained and aligned with industry standards to support President Tinubu’s industrial revolution agenda.
