Former Kogi Central Senator Ahmed Ogembe Leaves PDP After Suspension Over ADC Affiliations

Former Senator representing Kogi Central in the 8th National Assembly, Senator Ahmed Ogembe, has officially resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

His resignation follows his formal defection to the coalition political party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The resignation letter, dated August 10, was addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Upogoro/Odenku Ward in Okene Local Government Area, Kogi State, and was received on August 18 by the Ward Chairman, Nuhu Suleiman.

Titled “Letter of Resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party,” Senator Ogembe described his decision as carefully considered. He also expressed gratitude to the PDP leadership, from the Ward level to the national level, for their support throughout his membership in the party.

The letter read: “I, Senator Ahmed Salau Ogembe, hereby formally tender my resignation as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Upogoro/Odenku Ward of Okene Local Government Area, Kogi State, with immediate effect.

“This decision was taken after careful consideration and wide consultations with my political associates, supporters, and family members.

‘While I remain grateful for the opportunities and platform the PDP has providable over the years, I believe it is time to pursue a new political direction in the interest of my personal convictions.”

“I sincerely appreciate the leadership of the PDP at the ward, local government, state, and national levels for their support during my period of membership,” he said.

“I also thank party members, friends, and supporters who have stood by me in political journey.”

Earlier, the PDP in Kogi Central Senatorial District had announced the suspension of Senator Ogembe over allegations that he disclosed the collapse of the party’s structure in Okene Local Government Area to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The suspension letter, signed by the party’s Zonal Vice Chairman (Central) and Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Okene Local Government Area, Hon. Anthony Akuvada Momoh, stated that Ogembe’s actions amounted to a clear violation of the PDP Constitution (2017, as amended), specifically Sections 58(1) and 59.

The letter said in part that the attention of the Kogi Central Senatorial District Caretaker Committee of the PDP, led by Zonal Vice Chairman Hon. Anthony Akuvada Momoh, has been drawn to “grave allegations” of anti-party conduct against Ogembe, including “gross misconduct,” “betrayal of trust,” and deliberate actions that could undermine the party’s interests and survival in Kogi State.
