Nollywood star and filmmaker Funke Akindele has opened up about her journey into politics, describing it as a powerful and eye-opening experience she would willingly embark on again.

Speaking during the #WithChude Live talk show hosted by media personality Chude Jideonwo, Akindele explained that her motivation to contest as the Lagos Deputy Governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections stemmed from a deep desire to give back to society and uplift others.

The award-winning actress revealed that her foray into the political arena significantly deepened her understanding of leadership, governance, and national development. According to her, the process taught her the value of boldness and resilience, showing her that fear can be a barrier to growth.

She also shared that politics sparked a transformation in her intellectual habits, encouraging her to read more and back her opinions with data-driven arguments.

Reflecting on the experience, Akindele expressed pride in her political involvement and hinted strongly at a return to the scene in the future.

She said:

“I need to support others, I need to give back. That is why I went to politics. Getting into it, seeing the violence, seeing the shouting, then I started watching female politicians, you know, the way they speak, and the way they command respect and authority. And I’m like, hey, you can do it.

“I stood, I spoke, I learnt that from there, that you have to be bold, you have to be courageous, you have to be strong, what will be will be, fear will only put you in a place.
