Gunmen Kill Man While Buying Food in Lagos Community

A yet-to-be-identified man was shot dead by gunmen on Saturday, July 19, in the Ojo-Igbede area of Lagos State.
FCNN gathered that the victim had stepped out to buy a plate of food from a vendor when two men on a motorcycle rode up to him.
According to an eyewitness, the assailants, who wore caps, ordered the man to kneel before shooting him in the head.
“The victim was new in this area and no one knew his name,” the source said, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the incident. “He had just joined the queue to buy food when the two men arrived. They called him over and told him to lie down. At first, he resisted, but eventually complied. That was when they shot him. He hadn’t spent more than five minutes before it happened.”
A photo obtained by Newsmen showed the man lying in a pool of blood, with shocked residents gathered at the scene.
An anti-cultism advocacy group on X (formerly Twitter) also posted about the killing, stating that the victim had only recently moved to the area. “While waiting for his turn to buy food, men on a bike called him out, told him to kneel (others said lie down), then shot him in the head multiple times before fleeing,” the post read. The group claimed the attack was carried out by members of the Aye confraternity, though the victim’s ties—if any—to cult groups remain unclear.
Another resident, identified simply as Bode, said the killing threw the community into panic. “There was serious fear in the area after it happened. Everyone is now on high alert because we don’t know who could be next.”
Efforts to reach the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, on Sunday were unsuccessful, as calls to his line went unanswered. A text message sent to him had also not been replied to as of the time this report was filed.
