Human Rights Activist Aborisade Declares Governorship Ambition for Oyo 2027

Human rights activist, Chief Niyi Aborisade, has officially declared his intention to run for the Oyo State governorship seat in the 2027 election.
Aborisade, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said his decision was driven by a passion to transform the state and position it among the best globally.
Speaking with journalists in Ibadan, he expressed confidence in his ability to lead, citing his experience, structures, and vision for the state.
“I’ve been around the world and seen how governments operate. Oyo State should not be lacking basic amenities and proper governance,” he said. “As a human rights activist for over 30 years, I’ve always advocated for good governance. Now, it’s time to bring that governance home.”
He further stated that he stands out among other aspirants due to the political structures he has established across all 33 local government areas of the state.
“No one else has the kind of grassroots structure I have. I won’t be a social media governor — I am on ground. I believe I have the best chance to emerge victorious,” he said.
When asked about support from Governor Seyi Makinde, Aborisade expressed optimism, saying he believes the governor will endorse him at the appropriate time.
He also described himself as more qualified than other contenders.
“I have the capacity — both in terms of leadership and finances — to contest with anyone. I will be the next governor of Oyo State come 2027. The people should expect real, positive change,” he added.
