I Rather Retire Than Rejoin APC – Rabiu Kwankwaso

In a bold political declaration, former Kano State Governor and presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu made personal efforts to persuade him to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC). However, Kwankwaso says he firmly rejected the appeal, citing a deep loss of trust in the party’s values.

Speaking during an interview on Thursday, Kwankwaso said President Tinubu reached out to him multiple times, personally encouraging him to rejoin the ruling party. Despite the high-level outreach, Kwankwaso remained resolute in his stance.

“President Tinubu personally contacted me several times, encouraging me to rejoin the APC. However, I’ve made it unequivocally clear that I would rather retire from politics entirely than return to a party that has so thoroughly forsaken principle and justice,” Kwankwaso stated.

The statement has sent ripples through Nigeria’s political circles, reigniting debates about internal divisions within major parties and the future of opposition politics. Kwankwaso, now a key figure in the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has increasingly positioned himself as a critical voice against the APC-led federal government.

Observers believe his comments are a clear sign that political alliances ahead of 2027 may be drawn along ideological, rather than partisan, lines.

With Nigeria’s political landscape constantly shifting, Kwankwaso’s latest outburst may signal deeper cracks within the ruling elite – and an impending realignment ahead of the next general elections.
