Kidnappers Kill Delta Vigilante While He Trailed Them

A vigilante member from the Okpanam community in Delta State, Mr. Samuel Okoro, has been shot and killed by suspected kidnappers.

According to information gathered by FCNN on Tuesday, the kidnappers had abducted several victims in the community on Sunday and taken them into a nearby bush.

Mr. Okoro, who reportedly spotted the kidnappers and began trailing them, was unaware that he had also been seen. He was subsequently ambushed and fatally shot.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident in a phone interview, urging local vigilante groups to collaborate more closely with law enforcement agencies.

“Yes, Mr. Okoro was a vigilante member in Okpanam and was killed by kidnappers. We understand he saw the kidnappers in the bush and was following them when they turned on him and shot him,” Edafe said. “We strongly advise vigilante members to always inform the police before engaging in such dangerous operations. It’s risky to go after kidnappers or armed robbers alone.”

The incident adds to a growing wave of kidnappings and killings in the Okpanam and Issele-Azagba areas, which have caused widespread fear among residents. Many local farmers have reportedly abandoned their farmland, fearing for their safety.
