Lagos Lawmaker Empowers 500 Widows, Distributes 1,500 JAMB Forms in Massive Outreach

For the fourth consecutive year, Hon. Adewale Temitope Adedeji, the Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has extended support to over 500 widows in Ifako-Ijaiye through his empowerment initiative.

As part of his commitment to education, the lawmaker also distributed 1,500 JAMB forms to students in his Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency I, a move aimed at reducing illiteracy and fostering academic growth.

Speaking on his motivation, Adewale emphasized his dedication to alleviating poverty, particularly among widows and widowers who often face societal neglect.

“The set of Nigerians are mostly unhappy. They are isolated, deprived, and only a few of them have enough to keep them going. It is a terrible experience with many of them,” he stated while distributing cash gifts and food items at the 4th edition of the ‘Widows’ Valentine Special’ empowerment program.

The event, held at the Unity Centre on Ajuwon Road, Iju Lagos, witnessed the presence of notable dignitaries. Former House of Representatives member, Hon. Nurudeen Olaitan Akinwunmi, praised the initiative and encouraged beneficiaries to make good use of the financial support.

“For those yet to benefit, do not lose hope or be discouraged because soon it will reach your turn no matter how the selection and the sharing criteria will be,” Akinwunmi assured.

The chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Council, Prince Usman Hamzat, also lauded the program, noting that his administration continues to engage women in various vocational training initiatives.

Meanwhile, Deacon Banjo Omole, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Ifako-Ijaiye, stressed that the initiative aims to support all widows in the area without discrimination. According to him, the previous edition benefitted 250 people, and the lawmaker plans to extend educational support to 10,000 students in the constituency.

Engr. David Olanrewaju Dada, a community leader, urged the widows to keep the lawmaker in their prayers, appreciating his consistent efforts to uplift the underprivileged.

Expressing gratitude, some beneficiaries called on other well-meaning Nigerians to emulate the lawmaker’s generosity.

Mrs. Josephine Ijagbuiro, a recipient of the initiative, praised Hon. Adewale’s longstanding commitment to the community.

She remarked, “Aside from this initiative, Hon. Adewale has done so much for the needy in the constituency. The women in this area will continue to support him.”
