Lagos Monarch Dethrones Six Chiefs for Alleged Impersonation at Labour Party Campaign

The Ojora of Ijora and Iganmu Kingdom, Oba AbdulFatai Oyegbemi, has removed six of his chiefs from office for allegedly impersonating him at a Labour Party campaign rally held in the Apapa area of Lagos State.

According to the monarch, the chiefs attended the political event without his approval, violating palace protocols and misrepresenting his authority.

The affected chiefs are; Chief Lateef Ojora (Bale Alaba Oro), Chief Saliu Biliamin (Bale Alafia Dodoro), Chief Taiwo Hassan (Bale Oke Ira), Chief Idris Ojora (Bale Abule Kere), Chief Hakeem Oseni (Bale Mosafejo Amukoko) and Chief Sule Balogun (Balogun of Abule Kere)

The dethronements followed a palace meeting on Monday where Oba Oyegbemi addressed the issue. In a statement obtained on Tuesday, the monarch expressed disappointment over the chiefs’ actions, stating they acted without his knowledge or consent.

“Their conduct violated the expectations and responsibilities attached to their titles,” the statement read. “No chief is permitted to act or make decisions on behalf of the throne without my explicit approval. Their roles are to represent the palace, not undermine its authority.”

Oba Oyegbemi said the decision to remove the six chiefs was necessary to preserve discipline and uphold the traditions of the Ojora Kingdom. During the meeting, he also commended the current government’s developmental efforts in Ojora land and pledged continued support for its initiatives.
