Man Arrested for Allegedly Killing 71-Year-Old Mother with Machete in Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a man, Alexander Peter, for allegedly killing his 71-year-old mother, Mrs. Atiny Peter, with a machete.
The tragic incident took place in Ikot Inyang village, located in Oruk Anam Local Government Area of the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, confirmed the arrest during a press briefing on Thursday at the police headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo. According to Azare, the suspect was taken into custody on June 10, and investigations are currently underway to uncover the motive behind the gruesome act.
“The gruesome incident occurred in Ikot Inyang Village, Oruk Anam LGA, where the suspect reportedly used a machete to hack his mother to death,” Azare said. He added that the command is diligently working to determine the circumstances surrounding the crime.
The murder has sent shockwaves through the local community, with residents expressing disbelief over the brutal killing of an elderly woman by her own son.
Azare also revealed that, over the past six weeks, the police have arrested 54 suspects across the state for various criminal activities and recovered more than 50 arms and rounds of ammunition.
