Man Calls Off Scheduled Wedding In Imo After Discovering Bride’s Previous Social Media Post

A traditional wedding ceremony in Imo State has reportedly been cancelled after the groom came across an old social media post that raised concerns about his fiancée’s past.
Sources said the man discovered an earlier Facebook photograph showing the woman allegedly smoking cannabis, popularly known as “Canadian Loud,” just a few days before their planned wedding.
The unexpected discovery sparked tension between the couple and their families, leading to heated disagreements that could not be settled before the wedding date. As a result, the ceremony was suspended.
The bride-to-be was said to have appealed to her partner, explaining that the photo represented a phase of her life she had left behind. She reportedly insisted that she had changed and urged him to focus on who she is now rather than her past actions.
Despite her explanation, the groom allegedly refused to go ahead with the marriage, saying he was no longer comfortable proceeding after what he had seen.
Reactions within the community have been divided. While some people defended the groom’s choice, arguing that marriage requires openness and similar values, others felt it was unfair to judge someone entirely based on past mistakes, especially if they have reformed.
Relationship experts note that situations like this are becoming increasingly frequent, as old online posts often resurface during relationships, sometimes creating issues around trust, honesty, and compatibility.
As of the time of filing this report, neither family has released an official statement.
