Man Sentenced to 76 Years in Prison for Child Pornography, Fraud

A Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced Olukeye Adeayo Olalekan to 76 years in prison after convicting him of multiple offences, including child pornography, cyber stalking, fraud, and money laundering.
Justice Alexander Owoeye delivered the judgment on Thursday, finding Olalekan guilty of all 18 charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The charges included distribution and possession of child pornography, cyberstalking, concealment of fraudulent funds, and obtaining property under false pretences.
Prosecuting counsel, Mrs. Bilkisu Buhari-Bala, stated that the offences violated provisions of the Cybercrimes Act, 2015; the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act, 2006; and the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
Olalekan was initially arraigned on September 6, 2023, before Justice Y.G. Ringim, where he pleaded not guilty.
The case was later reassigned twice and ultimately heard afresh by Justice Owoeye.
During the trial, the EFCC presented five witnesses, including two investigators, whose testimonies were instrumental in securing the conviction. Buhari-Bala explained that an investigation by British Columbia’s Serious Crime Unit into the murder of 14-year-old Robin Janjus led to Olalekan’s online activity.
Digital forensics traced the victim’s communications to social media accounts operated by Olalekan, who had posed as a woman from North Carolina.
Through platforms like Snapchat and Instagram, he solicited illicit materials, threatened to share explicit images of minors, and carried out various fraud schemes involving gift cards and cryptocurrency.
