Motorists stranded as flood cuts off Kano-Maiduguri road

Motorists have been left stranded after a section of the Kano-Maiduguri expressway was washed away by a severe flood caused by heavy downpour. The incident left the major highway impassable and causing significant disruption to transportation in the region.

Speaking at the scene on Thursday, Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, emphasised the importance of the road, which serves as a critical link between the North-West and North-East parts of Nigeria. He has also assured residents and motorists that he will inform the Federal Government of the situation to seek immediate intervention. The Governor expressed concern over the impact of the flood, which has not only disrupted travel but also poses a threat to the livelihoods of those who rely on the expressway for commerce and daily activities.

Governor Mohammed emphasized the need for swift action to repair the damaged portion of the road and called on relevant agencies to provide immediate relief to those affected by the flood. He also highlighted the importance of long-term measures to prevent future occurrences of such incidents, particularly in flood-prone areas.
