Musk calls on followers to cancel Netflix over transgender content

Elon Musk has urged his 227 million followers on X to cancel their Netflix subscriptions, accusing the streaming platform of pushing what he described as “transgender propaganda.”
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO amplified a boycott campaign initially promoted by the conservative account Libs of TikTok, which criticized Netflix for featuring shows such as the animated series Dead End: Paranormal Park and for its diversity initiatives.
The show’s creator, Hamish Steele, was also targeted after resurfaced comments about conservative activist Charlie Kirk sparked backlash among right-wing users. Steele denied the allegations in posts on Bluesky that were later deleted, calling them “lies and slander.”
Netflix shares dropped two percent on Wednesday as the controversy spread, with another two percent decline reported on Thursday.
“Cancel Netflix,” Musk posted, echoing the Libs of TikTok message, which highlighted Netflix’s report noting an increase in non-white directors and lead actors. In a follow-up post, Musk claimed canceling the platform was necessary “for the health of your kids.”

Musk’s stance comes amid his long-running criticism of progressive causes. His eldest daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, publicly transitioned in 2022, legally changing her name and gender identity. Musk has since blamed what he calls the “woke mind virus” at elite schools for his estrangement from her.
