Nasarawa Final-Year Student Arrested for Dumping Newborn Baby in Bush

The Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended a final-year NCE student of the College of Education, Akwanga, for allegedly abandoning her newborn baby girl in a bush.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday in Lafia.

“The mother of the baby has been identified and arrested. The Commissioner of Police has ordered a transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia, for comprehensive investigation and prosecution of the suspect,” Nansel stated.

The incident occurred on Wednesday in the A.A. Koto area of Akwanga. According to reports, residents discovered the baby wrapped in a piece of cloth along a bush path near Hope Academy Primary School and immediately handed her over to the police.

An eyewitness, who requested anonymity, said, “The baby was dumped in the bush by her mother, a final-year NCE student of the College of Education, Akwanga.”

Authorities confirmed that the infant is in stable condition following her rescue. The police have assured the public that a thorough investigation will be carried out to ensure justice is served.
