2027: Atiku, David Mark, Other PDP Leaders Urge Nigerians to Unite in Effort to Unseat President Tinubu
A coalition of influential figures within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Senate President David Mark, has called on Nigerians to rally together in a renewed political effort to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued following a high-level consultative meeting held in Abuja, the leaders expressed deep concern over the state of the nation, citing economic hardship, rising insecurity, and alleged authoritarian tendencies under the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) government.
Atiku Abubakar emphasized the need for a unified opposition front, urging political stakeholders, civil society groups, youth movements, and the Nigerian electorate to begin mobilizing towards what he termed a “rescue mission” to reclaim Nigeria’s democracy and restore good governance.
“This is not just about politics; it’s about the survival of Nigeria as a united, just, and prosperous nation,” Atiku said. “We cannot afford another four years of economic mismanagement, nepotism, and divisive leadership.”
David Mark also echoed similar sentiments, noting that the PDP must take the lead in building a strong, inclusive coalition that will provide a credible alternative in 2027.
“The time for early preparation is now,” Mark stated. “Nigerians are yearning for change, and we must rise to the occasion.”
The group disclosed plans to commence nationwide consultations with other opposition leaders, former governors, lawmakers, and political activists to forge a broad-based alliance that will challenge the APC’s hold on power.
While no official declaration of candidacy was made, insiders suggest that the PDP is already considering strategic realignments, with talks of adopting a single presidential candidate under a coalition platform gaining traction.
This development marks the beginning of what may become a heated political battle as Nigeria inches closer to another crucial election year
