Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent appointments, accusing them of being lopsided and favoring one ethnic group over others. He expressed concern that the appointments do not reflect the Federal Character guidelines as stipulated in the Nigerian Constitution.
Ndume, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), made these comments on Arise News, stating that as a lawmaker, it is his duty to point out irregularities in government actions. He emphasized that Section 14(3) of the Constitution requires that political appointments reflect the Federal Character, ensuring inclusivity and fair representation.
The senator highlighted that while he has a personal relationship with President Tinubu, his criticism is aimed at correcting these infractions rather than making personal attacks. He noted that it is his obligation to speak out, especially since his role involves overseeing presidential actions and ensuring they align with constitutional provisions.
Ndume’s comments come amid growing concerns about the inclusivity and fairness of President Tinubu’s appointments. He urged that corrections be made to ensure that appointments are representative and reflect the diversity of Nigeria.
