New Judge Takes Over Nnamdi Kanu’s Case as Trial Gains Fresh Momentum

The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, has reassigned the case of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to a new judge.
Kanu’s lead counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, confirmed the development in a statement on Saturday, emphasizing that Kanu remains ready to stand trial, believing firmly in his innocence.
Ejimakor revealed that the legal team received two significant letters before their routine visit to Kanu. One letter came from the Chief Justice of Nigeria in response to their request for an administrative intervention regarding the reassignment of the case. The second letter, from the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, officially confirmed that the case had been transferred to a new judge.

Kanu expressed gratitude to the Chief Justice for her swift action and also thanked the public for their support in demanding a fair reassignment of his case.
He stressed that while he has always been prepared for trial, delays following the recusal of the previous judge in September 2024 had raised serious concerns about his constitutional right to a fair and speedy hearing.
With this latest development, Kanu’s legal team is now focusing on preparing a robust defense as proceedings move forward under the new judge.
