Ogun Police Arrest Suspected Cultist With Firearm

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of the Eiye Confraternity, identified as Ismail Afolabi, who was found in possession of a locally made double-barrel shotgun loaded with live ammunition.

The Ogun State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Sunday, noting that it followed actionable intelligence.

She said the suspect was apprehended by operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit during a raid on a suspected cult gathering in the Saje area of Carwash, Abeokuta.

“On June 27, 2025, at about 5:30 p.m., the Command received credible intelligence indicating that members of the Eiye Confraternity were holding a clandestine meeting, believed to be for criminal purposes, in the Saje area of Carwash, Abeokuta,” the statement said.

“SWAT operatives swiftly mobilised to the location. Upon arrival, one suspect, Ismail Afolabi, was found with a cross-body bag containing a cut-to-size double-barrel shotgun loaded with live ammunition. He was arrested while attempting to flee the scene,” it added.
