Payloader crushes pregnant woman to death, injures four in Ogun crash

A pregnant woman lost her life while four others sustained injuries after a heavy-duty payloader rammed into vehicles along Akarigbo Road in the Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The tragic incident occurred around 9 a.m. on Thursday, just opposite a bank in the area — barely three days after another crash near the Redemption Camp on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway claimed one life and left four others injured.
An eyewitness, John Olakunle, told PUNCH Metro that the payloader lost control and veered into the opposite lane before crashing into a Toyota Camry and a tricycle.
He said, “The payloader crossed from one lane to the other and rammed into a Camry and a tricycle. A pregnant woman inside the tricycle was crushed to death, while about three others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals by residents.”
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the vehicles involved included an unregistered payloader, a Toyota Camry with number plate AAB-248 MK, and a commercial tricycle with number plate JGB-643 VD.
According to Akinbiyi, preliminary findings revealed that the payloader, while in motion, lost control and swerved from the outbound Sabo lane into the inbound Sabo lane, colliding with both the tricycle and the Camry.
He said the crash resulted in the death of an adult pregnant woman and left four others injured. “The deceased has been deposited in a morgue, while the injured victims were taken by bystanders to different hospitals in Sagamu,” he added.
Fatal road accidents involving heavy-duty vehicles have become increasingly common in Ogun State.
